For Sale: Skipjack #97
John Stoudt is selling his Chesapeake Bay Skipjack, vintage sail number 97. The boat was built by John in conjunction with Alan Suydam’s class “Building an R/C Skipjack” at the WoodenBoat School in Brooklin. ME. John started the boat during the week-long course and completed it at home with 200 hours of work on the boat. The skipjack is an interesting boat to sail with sailing characteristics to the RC Laser. The boat is Pepper Langley’s original design with plans available from the Solomon’s Island Model Boat Club.
The boat has competed in numerous US VMYG national regattas capturing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishes. It also won the US VMYG Craftsmanship Award in 2019. It is painted traditional colors. There are custom brass fittings throughout the boat, and the rear hatch has a functioning companionway to accesses the on/off switch. The sails are made from high performance Icarex sail cloth. The sail servo is a new (it was found new in a hobby shop). Futaba S10 winch drum servo. It is very powerful and does a nice job on this overpowered rig.
The boat is complete with electronics, including a FlySky radio and receiver, a lifting hook, and a travel stand. The sails are custom made from a high-performance material.
