2019 National Championship Regatta
September 26 – 29, 2019

Sponsored by the US Vintage Model Yacht Group

Location: The sailing location is Tel Hai Camp and Retreat Center, 1101 Beaver Dam Road, Honey Brook, PA 19344. This location can be accessed from either the Downingtown (Exit 312) or Morgantown (298) interchanges of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Exit 312 is about 25 minutes to the lake and exit 298 is about 15 minutes to the lake.

Eligibility: Skippers of Remote Control (RC) vintage Marbleheads, vintage 36/600s, schooners, skipjacks, unrestricted model yachts, international A boats, and other vintage model yachts. Membership in the US Vintage Model Yacht Group is required and the American Model Yachting Association is encouraged.

Rules:

  • Racing will be governed by the current Racing Rules of Sailing 2010 (RRS), as modified by Appendix E and the Regatta Sailing Instructions.
  • The “RC Vintage Marblehead Rules,” as published on the USVMYG website (usvmyg.org).
  • The “Vintage 36 Class Rules”, as published on the USVMYG website (usvmyg.org).
  • Radio Control Skipjack 48 Model Class Rules”, as published on the USVMYG website (usvmyg.org).
  • The “Schooner Rules” as published on the USVMYG website (usvmyg.org). Traditional schooners are those built to the original USVMYG schooner rules: That is, a scale model of a real schooner designed or built before 1940, with no design modifications to enhance performance, except that the rudder may be enlarged 50% to enhance steering with radio control. Fin and bulbs will be allowed and will be scored separately.
  • The “International A Boat” rules as published on the USVMYG website (usvmyg.org).
  • The “Unrestricted Class Rules” as published on the USVMYG website (usvmyg.org).

Entry: Eligible boats and skippers are entered upon receipt of completed Entry Form and entry fee. The entry fee is $60.00 for the first model yacht and $20.00 for each additional model yacht, which covers trophies, on-site refreshments and lunch for skippers on each full day of sailing. Mid-regatta dinner party at local restaurant per person cost will be announced at regatta site and collected at the restaurant. A picnic will also be held Friday evening.

Regatta Schedule: The goals of the regatta schedule are to minimize travel costs, to maximize sailing time in each class and to accommodate skipper participation in conflicting events. The schedule may be modified at the discretion of the Regatta Committee based on fleet registrations, weather and general sailing conditions.

Racing Format: Single fleet

Scoring: Low point system, one point awarded 1st place, etc. DNF, DNS and DSQ shall be scored fleet plus one. A DSQ shall not be used as a throw-out. There will be one throw-out for every eight races.

Sailing Instructions: See page 6 for Sailing Instructions.

Holds, adjustments: One 5-minute hold per skipper for the entire regatta. Adjustments must be made before the start countdown begins. Boats aground or entangled may be freed by anyone.

Prizes: Trophies will be awarded to the top three skippers in fleets that field six or more boats and to the top two skippers in fleets of three to five boats.

You may customize an article of clothing for the anniversary celebration with either 2019 – 25 Years or 25th Anniversary for a slight up charge.

Lodging and Restaurants: There are many hotels and restaurants* in the Exton and Lionville, PA area. A Google search will produce many places to stay and eat. If you have questions please feel free to contact the regatta coordinator. Many restaurants are on Open Table.

*Breakfast locations include Nudy’s (multiple locations), Cracker Barrel, Panera Bread, Bistro 24 American Grille, Wimpy and Dees Diner (Honey Brook) and others.
