MODEL BOATS In the Tideway set fair for attendance at least as good. Guildford is the first ‘non R/C’ M.Y.A. Club to make a move of this nature, but we understand that Birkenhead Club is on the same path and expects to have a number of R/C Marbleheads within the club and to run R/C Some concern has been expressed in various parts of the country at the decrease in interest in speed models. It would seem that there are still people who do not realise that in any sphere of activity where absolute speed is the sole criterion the quest for it is self-limiting, because the more speeds rise and the more efficient the machines become the harder it is meetings, though probably not until early next season. There was some talk at a recent regatta that 1974 will see the first National Radio Control Marblehead Championship, to be held by Guildford at their water to keep up with or improve on the top performers, It means more work, more knowledge and engineering ability, and/or more money, and one can put in a year’s work for a 1 per cent gain in performance. It needs a great enthusiast to be satisfied with so small at Elstead Moat. It may have taken some time to get radio yachting on the move in this country but there is no doubt it is rolling steadily now and that it is rolling in the a reward for so much effort. Model boaters in this country have, to some extent, right manner. been fortunate in that we ran our own type of speed events up until five or six years ago, and when we were approaching what might be called saturation point in those categories and courses we changed over to Naviga style speed running, which called for differences of boats and engines. For two or three years progress was quite marked and we had the target of superior continental times in front of us, but then our top men ‘came on pipe’ and we were able to equal or get very close indeed to the top continentals. Times on the Naviga course have reduced to what would Yacht Rules Yachting enthusiasts are advised that the M.Y.A. yacht rules are now printed in a revised form and for the first time for many months are all again available. They are in loose-leaf form drilled at 8cm centres for a standard ring binder and are available as follows: Sailing Rules and A Class Rules 10R Rules… . M Rules 6m Rules… 36R Rules… have been felt to be impossible five or six years ago, and although the word ultimate is a trap for the unwary, it is difficult to see how much more than another + to 1 second can be cut from existing record times. This brings the situation where a number of enthusiasts are capable of top level performance but are R/C Yacht Rules … act werd oe app 5p 10p Tp ADP DP 20D Binder supplied with any of the above 30p sangeet
