The US VMYG has rules for the following classes:
- Freesailed
- International A Boat
- Schooner
- Skipjack 48
- Unrestricted Models Racing Class
- Vintage 10-Rater
- Vintage 36 (36/600)
- Vintage Marblehead (50/800)
We have established and maintain our Class Rules to:
- Preserve the heritage of the vintage model yachts.
- Encourage construction of new model yachts based on original designs and to encourage the design of new models based on the rules.
- Guide the spirit of a model event to celebrate the history and enthusiasm for these boats.
- Race the models for public and personal entertainment.
- Demonstrate a level of individual craftsmanship in the construction of the models.
- Encourage as many individuals as possible to participate in US VMYG events.
Class Rating Rules
All model yachts participating in racing competition sponsored by US VMYG must comply with the appropriate class-rating rules. It is the responsibility of each skipper to prepare their boat in accordance with the Rules and Specifications. The intent of the US VMYG is to encourage participation and to simplify any certification or measurement processes as much as is consistent with fair racing.
It is reasonable to expect that the class rules or plans may evolve with time to improve clarity, correct unforeseen problems, or embrace advancing R/C technology. It is the intent of the class that any potential changes not disqualify existing boats.
Change Requests
Use the Class Rule Change Request Form to make change requests or comments on any of the US VMYG class rules.
The Rules Committee will review your request and may contact you by email with any questions or clarifications. Please understand that changes to class rules take time and require consideration of the needs of all members of the class.
Be specific about the exact rule that you want to change and provide your proposed wording for the rule and evidence you have to support your proposal. You may upload images to support your request.
Sail Numbers
While some class rules may indicate a sail number size of 3 in, US VMYG encourages the use of sail numbers larger than 3 in. This will make it easier for our Race Committees to read the sail numbers on the course. Templates for 3- and 4-in numbers are available here. Only print those pages you need: Sail Number Templates.
