Each team sent four boats. It was a closely contested race. The wind was from the N.E. up until 2:00 P.M. Then it turned to the N.W., velocity about 5 to 10 miles per hour. The Quaker City club won by a score of 114 to 100. The Atlantic boats were equipped with Vane gears, while the Quaker City boats used the Braine system. The boats equipped with the vane were at a disadvantage in the morning when the wind was veering several points both sides of N.E. In the afternoon when the wind settled to a steady blow from the N.W. they seemed to do a lot better. The Braine system is more easily handled in the light and screwy winds than the vane, although this race did not prove that either gear was superior to the other, we are of the opinion that the boat that is equipped with a Vane has the advantage over the boat equipped with the Braine gear in a steady blow. We are going to try to get a plan of the Vane that has been in use and publish it in the near future. Sunday, October 6 the Warinanco M. Y. C. held its annual championship race. 7 models were entered. The wind was N.W. about 8-15 M.P.H. Two complete rounds were sailed. The scores were as follows: Skipper Boat Oliver Brown, Swan 2. P. Three rounds were sailed, the first in light tricky airs, with a beat and run interspersed with one or two reaching boards. During this round the wind shifted from S.W. to S.E. causing much grief to certain boats. The second round was sailed under much better conditions, with a beat and run in winds from 25 miles at the start dimin- ishing to 15. The third round was the same with the wind varying from 15 to 10 miles. No disqualifications were made during the entire race. Boat Jeep Skipper Boat H. Pierce, Alice May Points 24 H.
