NOVEMBER 1962 TWO SHILLINGS U.S.A. & CANADA 40 Cents MODEL SHIPS – CARS ENGINEERING – YACHTS MOWEL MIANKIE!R 1962 BRITISH OPEN A CLASS CHAMPIONSHIP DL ASt MINCTE replanning of the sailing schedule (twice!) followed the late withdrawal of two of the 27 entries for this year’s championship. The tragic overnight death of one of the Danish skippers towards the end of the week cast a shadow over the regatta; the other Danish boat was withdrawn, so that points for and against the two boats were can- ’ celled. Three German, one French, two Scottish, and one Irish boat sailed; of the remainder, six were from Northern clubs and ten from the South. A wide variety of designs were present, from the latest Lewis Vital Spark (Classic Il) back to the twentyfive-year-old Wright and Edwards’ boats Fleetwood Lady and Idaho. Winds were on the whole lightish, but ranged from very light to fresh throughout the week. From the start Munin and Classic I] were among the leaders, accompanied by Philippa. Exodus was well up until the stronger winds of Thursday, when she dropped from 2nd to 9th. After 20 rounds , Munin had 64 against Classic II with 52, Reward 2 : The ¢ having 47; and lying 8th. * 1 = position, however, is confused by the adjustment of . points ~ re ke bry withdrawal of the Danis boats two heats before the K784 K783 ie K771 9 K777 7 10 nu B KS9 : oe seventh.
