LOGBOOK conflicting bodies seeking Union recognition in any country. The proposal was carried by 29 votes to 24; it is not expected that the powers conferred will need to be called on very frequently, but they were sought because there are cases where Model Yachting Association News America and Australia, but several European listed, model yachtsmen including apparently about 20 at other countries maintain fleets. There have been some waters within reasonable reach. About 20% are modifications to the rule in the last 30 years which have not been incorporated into the model for 10-raters and the remainder nearly equally rule, but this is unlikely to affect model perform- us) and 36/600. They are set out in the table below. These events, taken from the M.Y.A. regatta list, are all ‘open’ with the exception of team championships, but in this context open means open to any M.Y.A. member (and_ usually members of other clubs whose national body is affiliated to the I.M.Y.R.U.) but not to non members. In addition there are a good many club races, for club members only, and as has been mentioned before, some clubs may allow a boat owner who is a prospective member to compete in such a race. It may be that someone taking a boat on holiday near a club could have a chance to race; it is up to each club whether this would be allowed, but would certainly be worth asking, Lone hands tend to be viewed sympathetically by those fortunate enough to have a club and a sailing water on hand. and the experience of the meeting at the same 1980 International venue, a first class Championships can confidently be anticipated. More details will be given as everything firms up. In view of the limited support for the EC12 class in Europe, the Executive board felt that an insuf- ficient entry would be probable Championship for this class was if the World included at Dunkirk, and it would therefore be better if such an event were to be staged in North America in 1982. The Model Yacht Racing Association of America is therefore being asked if they would be prepared to undertake the organisation of an EC12 World Championship. A new I.M.Y.R.U. member is Hong Kong, and the contact is: P. R. Barker, Flat 1B Ellyridge, 15 Ho Man Tin Hill Road, Kowloon, Hong Kong. Correspondence suggests that there are quite a few enthusiasts in the area, some of whom are not yet in touch with each other, so it is to be hoped that Union recognition will bring together all these model yachtsmen for everyone’s benefit. Such a case has occurred in Holland, where a Dutch Model Sailing Association (N.M.Z.A, or comprehensive I.M.Y.R.U. Clearly a ‘Nimoza’) has been formed and has supplied a the mention in the February issue was basically speculation on what attitude might be adopted to a class /f it has no future. Blowing a bit of dust off it has given it a little exposure and disclosed a few _ points — for example, the fact that glass hulls can have increased in numbers sufficiently to break away from single national R10R A A list of registered boats and skippers which considerably exceeds any previous numbers registered, together with a letter from the full size national federation which is pleased to recognise this new association, and additional documentation amply substantiating its claim to represent Dutch Model yachtsmen. The E.B. had little hesitation in deciding that recognition should be accorded to the new organisation. A more complicated situation exists in Sweden, and there is rather a high degree of conflict in evidence submitted. Without going into all the complications (which would take a couple of pages to set out) we can only report that the E.B. has granted recognition to the older-established body on a temporary basis (until the end of 1982) so that Swedish yachtsmen can participate in international events and to give time for either a domestic solution or possible developments to emerge. The position will be reconsidered at the end of 1982. It would seem — speaking unofficially — that where two bodies both seek recognition and no easy choice presents itself, an umbrella com- mittee, which might be called the national ‘Model Yacht Racing Association’ could be formed for international recognition purposes, representing both bodies (even with joint secretaries?) thus giving all model yachtsmen the advantages of I.M.Y.R.U. affiliation, even if the two bodies continue to run separate programmes. The Union can only recognise one authority per country, so where there is a schism it would be up to the parties concerned to create an acceptable single body for this purpose, even if their adminis- trations and organisations remain separate for other purposes.
