It was unanimously agreed to form an association or club, to be conducted upon lines similar to those already formed in Glasgow, Dundee, and in England. Permission has been granted to post notice boards near to St. Margaret’s Loch (the sailing station of the club) and also to fix flags, poles, and ropes as may be required for regattas or matches. About thirty names are already upon the roll, and officers for the season were elected as follows, viz :-——President Mr. John Wood, Leith; Commodore, Mr. G. Henderson, Leith ; Secretary, Mr. P. D. Coghill, Edinburgh; Treasurer, Mr. J. Barclay, Edinburgh; with six members of a General Committee. The object of the club is the designing, constructing, and sailing of model yachts; and it is proposed to rent a boat-house near to the Loch for the convenience of the members. Mr. R. M. Ferguson of Novar, M.P. for Leith, has become a patron of the club. It was agreed to call the club “THe EpInBURGH AND Lerrh MoDEL YACHT CLUB,” and to fly a burgee, white with red letters.” — Scotsman. — MopEL o— YacHTSMEN. — At the Woodbury Exhibition, Mr. F. J. NEW CLUB FOR JUNE. Success CANOEIST. PHOTOGRAPHS OF MODEL YACHT RACING ON THE CaNoE LakeE, SourHSEA.—Messrs. West & Son, of Gosport, have secured instantaneous impressions of model racing on this magnificent sheet of water. In several of these the happy moment has been hit to anicety, and beautiful and attractive are the sails. Uotes. AND We have been favored with a list of yachts to let for cruising on the Norfolk and Suffolk Rivers and broads. It is issued by Messrs, Downes Bros., 29, London Street, Norwich, and contains all the particulars necessary to enable gentlemen visiting these districts to choose and make arrangements beforehand for their enjoyment. The yachts range from 4 to 37 tons, and the hire is very reasonable. —o0— A Pian of the racing waters of the Scarboro Model Yacht Club has been forwarded to us, and we understand this grand sheet of water is to be yet further enlarged. This will no doubt ensure a visit to Scarbro’ of some of the Yorkshire modelyachtsmen. wikis Tue Highgate Model Yacht Club has decided to adopt the system of handicapping their boats by weight, similar tothat pursued at Manchester, sothat different sized boats may be sailed. We should recommend them to adopt specially a 1o-ton class, in addition to their other measurment regulations, so as to serve the double purpose of giving members the opportunity of building into a class where there need not be any handicapping, as well as provide a class to compete against other clubs. —O— INTER-CLUB MATCH. We have been favored with the season’s card of matches of the Dumbarton club, which contains numerous fixtures and many valuable prizes, and it gives us pleasure to publish the announcement that, “on July 16th, a match will be sailed for all yacht under 30-tons, open to all recognised model yacht clubs in Great Britain, for a large silver cup presented to the club by Mr. J B. THE MODEL-YACHTSMAN AND CANOEIST, 83 Cauchie, Jeweller, Argyte Arcade, Glasgow, as | ‘Coronet’ (cut.) 2nd. ‘Dove’ (schooner) might have first prize, and a second prize presented by Mr. Fullerton, Jeweller, Buchanan Street, Glasgow.” We hope this will attract some of the many clubs to Dumbarton. won only for her meeting with an accident at the finish.-The following Saturday, 7th May, there were eight entries, and the same number of starters, the course being a reach. A strong breeze was blowing, but all carried full sail. THE CHALLENGE TROPHY. It is evident from the lack of interest taken in this project, that the whole soul of the average model yachtsman centres in his own pondor lake, and leaves him apparently uninterested by what takes place elsewhere. With the large number of model yachtsmen to draw upon it need not have taken more than one month to bring it to a successful issue. Well, we must confess to some disappointment at so poor a result, and drop the curtain. All those who have sent us money will please apply for its return, andthose whose promises we registered will consider them cancelled. Doings of the Clubs. Reports for publication must be legibly written, on one side of the paper o/y, and forwarded to the Eprror not later than the zoth of each month, to ensure insertion in the following issue. Contributions to this column are solicited from all the Medel Yacht Clubs, Scarboro M. Y.C.—On April 28th, a deputation waited upon the Corporation Committee, and great hopes are entertained that the Mere will be greatly improved for model yachting. The members have been practice-sailing every Saturday afternoon, and would have brought a match off on April 21st, but for inclement weather. The weeds in the Mere are a great obstruction, and the club has found it necessary to have a punt built to clear the yachts. It has been decided to havea locker made for 40 models, for which free space has been granted by Mr. 5. Medd. The club still progresses, the number of members having reached 55, and Sir Ed. Harland, Belfast, has become a patron and snpporter. Model Yacht Sailing Association (London ).— A Second class match was sailed at the Round Pond, Kensington Gardens, on May 14th, 6 entries. Result :—Mr. Butcher’s ‘Vixen’ 4 points, Mr. Barrett’s ‘Mabel’ 17, Mr. Cob’s Mr. Pollard’s ‘Psyche’ 2, Mr. Whiffen’s ‘Daisy’ 4. ‘Blue Belle’ 11, Mr. Pounsett’s ‘Star’ 10, There was a great amount of fouling, ‘Psyche’ carried away her bowsprit and was very unfortunate. A 3rd class club match will be sailed May 28th. Kingstown (Ireland )M. ¥Y.C—The opening match was sailed on Saturday 30th April, the course being a beat to windward.
