By Leroy Lewis
Voices of Model Yachting by Leroy Lewis is a series of conversations with people who have helped shape model yachting with the intention of preserving their stories, experiences, and knowledge.
Voices of Model Yachting is Lerow Lewis’s second podcast. His first, Beyond the Boat, explores the people and communities who keep wooden boats alive—owners, craftspeople, captains, educators, and stewards—and what it means to care for something that carries history, skill, and meaning.
The projects are quite similar: listening to people, preserving their stories, and sharing what they’ve learned along the way. For both, Leroy records and shares conversations with people whose lives have been shaped by boats, craftsmanship, and the communities that grow around them.
If you enjoy these conversations and would like to support Leroy to cover the costs of recording and producing them, you can donate on his page.

Voices of Model Yachting-001: Rod Carr – A Conversation About Model Yachting.
Rod Carr has spent decades building, sailing, designing, and making sails for model yachts. He was also one of the nine people involved in forming the American Model Yachting Association in 1970.
In this conversation, Rod reflects on much more than model boats. We talk about craftsmanship, problem solving, the influence of his father, mentoring newcomers, the friendships that grow around model yachting, and why knowledge gained over a lifetime is worth passing along.
