For Sale: Collection of Detroit School Boats and Documentation

This rare collection is being offered as a set that includes four boats, support documentation and a poster.  All four boats have carved bread and butter hulls. The boats are:

1. A very unusual hard-chine 24” free sailed model yacht with a simple steering mechanism. The boat was built by Ken Crans in 1972 and was entry number 110 in the Chrysler Metropolitan Model Yacht Regatta. It was registered as an “O” class boat (whatever that class is?) This boat comes with the AJ Fisher receipt for the parts, the registration card with the race and lane numbers, the two participation ribbons, and the students name tag (Ken). The unusual aspect of this boat is its rarity. Someone familiar with the Detroit school program was unaware that there was this design. The documentation supports that is genuine.

2. A Phillips #1 Detroit school boat built in 1959 by Jim Paver. The fittings on entry 351 are AJ Fisher fittings with Braine steering, travelers, and deck fairleads. The sails are original, and the jib sail has a tear. The deck is a light mahogany with the deck planking very nicely drawn on. There is a nice mahogany stand. The boat comes with ribbons for the regatta sponsored by the Detroit News.

3. A 30-inch Seawind version of a Detroit school boat. The boat is fitted with AJ Fisher fittings. The boats is rigged for free sailing with Braine steering mechanism. Part of the steering rig is missing but parts will be provided to complete the steering arrangement. The sails are in good shape but are dirty. There is no stand. This boat needs some work but will look very nice when completed.

4. A 30-inch Seawind version of a Detroit school boat. It was scratch built by Alan Suydam and is rigged for remote control. While the servos are not installed there mounting brackets are installed and the servos are in the boat. The deck has the deck planking drawn on the deck. The is a very nice stand. This boat was part of the exhibit in The World of Model Yachts in Newport, Rhode Island, May to October 2004. The display card is included.

5. Last but not least is a poster announcing the 2003 Diamond Anniversary (75th Annual), Model Yacht Regatta, Saturday May 31, 2003.
