Cocina is said to be Nat Herreshoff’s favorite sailboat.
A ¼ scale RC model of Nat Herreshoff’s favorite sailboat. He sailed it regularly on Long Island Sound. This model yacht is probably the only one-quarter scale RC model of Cocina anywhere. This is a beautiful executed (built in 2006), plank-on-frame model that you take out on the water on light air days to show off what will be the centerpiece of your collection. Built and signed by Alan Suydam this model has also been signed by Halsey Herreshoff, Nat’s grandson, who is a very good practicing naval architect in Bristol, RI.
Alan went to great pains to replicate the original boat in scale from the Herreshoff plans. The bright work is beautiful, a set of oars, floor deck planking, centerboard, blocks and running rigging, removable ballast, two rig set ups. Made from assorted woods including mahogany, cedar and other woods. There are two masts for two different rigging scenarios. There is no radio or receiver, but they can be provided.
- Two sails with one at the forward mast step and a mizzen.
- One sail with the main in the second location at the forward seat.
This boat is beautiful on its stand, as well as the rare occasion you would put it in the water.
