For Sale: Late 1940s Wooden Catamaran Model Yacht

This rare 42-inch catamaran model yacht was found on eBay in New Jersey. It was missing the rig, rudders, and the bow sprit. The boat was originally a free-sailed model yacht.

The model has been completely restored by the owner and rigged for remote control sailing. The “electronics board” mounts on the central spar and removes easily for display on its stand. The rig is all new with a custom-made set of sails. It is much like a full-sized catamaran. The steering arm is designed to compensate for the rudders’ positions on the two hulls. There are custom fittings throughout with a drum winch and high torque rudder servo. There is lead ballast (about 2-lbs each in each hull to help keep the boat stable when close hauled. There is also a detachable keel that mounts on the central spar. Tensioning wires are mounted strategically between the hulls and the central spar. A hull specialist was consulted to establish the age of the boat. There are similarities between this model yacht and Herreshoff’s Amarylis. The boat comes with a custom stand and is ready for your radio and receiver.

John Stoudt is selling the 42-inch catamaran for $750.00 OBO plus S & H.

A radio and receiver can be provided and set up for $50.00.
