Whipping is a common way to stabilize the end of a piece of rope, but it can work in other applications. There are a few circumstances when building a rig for a model yacht where you may want to end-whip the end of a mast or boom. This is easy to do and will protect the whipped end from splitting from the side stress placed on the spar. This is effective on the mast heel and on the gooseneck end of the main boom.
Use an extreme braid fishing line to end-whip the spar following the illustration. When the whipping is complete coat it entirely with cyanoacrylate adhesive (CA glue or super glue). This makes for an extremely strong “collar” around the stressed area and will prevent breakage as a result of the lateral pressures applied in these circumstances.
