Wire

Our work, experimentation, and observation of model yachts on the water through the years have led us to use a single-strand wire and a coated, braided wire. These two types of wire are used exclusively on the model yachts we work on.

1. Stainless steel fishing leader wire (#11 – 140-lb wire)
2. Nylon Coated 1 x 7 stainless steel wire (135-lb wire)

The leader wire is fairly rigid and will span the distance between the attachment points on the back side of the mast and serve as the bolt wire.

The coated wire is used for the jib stay [R27], backstay [R01], shrouds [R50], and control loops where a piece of wire is best suited, at the jib club fitting [R24] and at the mast crane [R38]. Used in conjunction with a #5 sleeve [R53], it is a strong secure wire for these applications. The nylon coating holds the crimping well and prevents the wire from slipping if the sleeve is crimped correctly.
