outhaul fairlead [R45]: A fitting inserted vertically into the aft end of a boom to prevent damage to the boom by the outhaul.
An outhaul fairlead is a fairlead that is placed vertically through the trailing edge of the boom to accommodate the outhaul on each of the jib and main sails (see yellow arrow in photograph). It eliminates the “cut” that the outhaul makes along the grain of the boom. It is made from 3/32-in brass or aluminum tubing and secured with cyanoacrylate adhesive.
