mast step [R41]: The combination of parts, the deck fitting and mast bottom fitting that position the mast on the boat.
There are different ways you can mount a mast on a boat; all of them are called mast steps. In each case they are a combination of parts that work together to ensure the mast stays in position. You can use a Tee–shaped mast step and mast collar or a flat mast step. There are a variety of options that you may decide from. Our research has led to a fairly simple adaptation of a flat step, pin, and collar arrangement.
Companies like AJ Fisher made a very nice kit, No. 570 T-brass Adjustable Mast Step. Others, such, Bill Bithell, made other variations of mast steps. They were available in brass and chrome plated.
