backstay bracket [R02]: A fixture that the backstay attaches to near the stern of a sailboat as noted under backstay.
The backstay bracket is mounted on the centerline of the boat either on the deck or the transom. There are numerous backstay brackets available commercially, or you may choose to make one. A simple screw eye may suffice. You may want something more substantial like a one-hole rack. This would allow you to attach it using more screws and would improve the ability of the bracket to withstand the forces placed on it.
You can make a very nice bracket from a Tee-shaped piece you can make using the information from the article referenced below. There is a photo of a homemade backstay bracket. This bracket is made from two pieces of brass angle soldered together.
The Pekabe 358 shroud plate material may be cut and finished to the length needed for the backstay bracket. The other examples are ready for use.
